Silver Miraculous Medal Memento Mori Rosary
Memento mori or “remember your death” is the Latin phrase long associated with the practice of remembering the unpredictable and inevitable end of one’s life. This phrase and the symbols and sayings associated with it were particularly popular in the medieval Church. Skulls have been used as a memento mori on rosaries since at least the 16th century in the Church. But the practice of remembering death stretches back to the very beginning of salvation history when God says to Adam and Eve as they leave the Garden of Eden: “You are dust, and to dust you shall return” (3:19).
For the Christian, death is transformed into a doorway to heaven but we also must prepare for it. This rosary will help you to contemplate the Gospel and all that Jesus has done to save us from the death of sin. It will also serve as a reminder that life is fleeting and we are called to live for holiness.
This rosary is strung with black lava beads on sturdy jeweler's wire. The "Our Father" beads are white stone skulls. The centerpiece is a miraculous medal and the crucifix is a Pardon Cross that has several indulgences attached to it that were approved by Pope St. Pius X in 1905.
