1St & 2Nd Timothy Titus (Catholic Commentary On Sacred Scripture

Montague George T
Item Code

These pastoral letters, First and Second Timothy, and Titus, reflect and shed light on:

  • the "mystery of devotion," the union of Christ and his Church
  • the redeeming grace of Christ who gave himself that his people might be holy
  • the saving plan of God, which leads to hope in eternal life
  • combines these reflections with wise counsel and practical directives and include what might be called Paul's last will and testament

George Montague offers a Catholic pastoral commentary on the letters to Timothy and Titus in the second volume in the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture. He presents sound exegesis followed by reflection on the pastoral, theological, and practical applications of the text.

"George Montague's volume on First and Second Timothy and Titus in the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture is a rich addition to the study of the Pastoral Epistles. Tackling the tough questions of authorship and dating, Montague presents a scholarly and Catholic exegesis that incisively analyzes all the arguments and draws carefully thought-out conclusions. Gleaning from sources ancient and modern, the scope of the commentary is broad and faithfully Catholic. The sidebars and historical and cultural notes make this an exceptionally valuable resource. This is certainly a welcomed addition to my library!"
Steve Ray, lecturer; author of the Bible Study Guides for Genesis and Acts; and writer, producer, and host of the ten-part documentary series Footprints of God: The Story of Salvation from Abraham to Augustine
