Women Sex & Church Case For Catholic Teaching

Women, Sex and the Church is an excellent look at the damage that is done when we do not live as we were created to live.
The book opens with the editor, Erica Bachiochi's return to the faith as well as an admission that living as we were intended to live is hard even if it is worth it. She writes: "The teachings of the Church on sex and marriage are not easy to live. Through them the Church asks us to do much that is against our (fallen) nature, much that is against our culture. But by prayerfully living according to Church teachings on sex and marriage, we are not only protected from much emotional, physical, and spiritual harm, but these teachings also have the power to transform us into persons capable of both giving and receiving selfless love for where we were designed".
Who doesn't want to receive selfless love? Everyone, but to do so, we must live to give selfless love and this means living as the Creator intends for us to live.
Other so-called feminists will tell you that women should be free to choose to abort your child, have sex "like a man", strip your feminine identity of all that makes you a woman and you will be happy. Each contributor to this anthology gives economic, sociologic and mental health proof that abortion, divorce, contraception et al are bad for women. If you don't want to look at the theological and scriptural proofs that are offered, then you have to admit to the science. Each writer has included many proven studies and solid intellectual conclusions to refute the crazyfeminists mantra of so called "freedom". Again, if we would just live as we were created to live, we would be safe, happy, successful and society would be in far better shape.
Are they arguing that women should go back to the days when they couldn't vote, work, get an education or own land? Not at all, only that with some of the legitimate freedoms we've been given, licenses have been taken, and not always for our good. We only way to advance women's freedom is to understand and accept the nature of our own creation and then live accordingly.
I want to thank Dr. Laura Garcia for an incredible first chapter. It sets the tone for the rest of the book. In short space (I hope she follows it up with a book on this topic) she lays out the equality of men and women, the differences between the genders and what it means to be authenticly free. It is a brilliant essay and one I have been waiting to hear from someone on the academic level.
All in all, for some the book will be a difficult read. I would ask those readers, with all tenderness to let God move in you and let Him reveal his great and unfailing love for you. He created you GOOD, and wants you to live as he made you, because he wants only for your happiness and joy.
